Wreck a Trek

Ah, demo days are here. Trek boasted their annual demo days at Castlewood State Park today, and it continues tomorrow. After a slaughtering on the slick roots of the Blue Ribbon trail and a short loop along the river down Zombie lane AKO, 54x12 and I made our way back to the trailer to check out some new carbon. AKO and I both top the 07 Lemond Zurich to see what it had under the hood. I have riden the gaunlet of steeds Trek has to offer. I own a couple. I have a couple of Lemonds too, but they are undergoing a wholesale change for 07. I have heard rubblings through the grapevine that the Trek designers are up in arms because the Lemonds Triomphe frames are getting a better response than their counterpart Madones. Humm. Gotta see for myself. I am in the camp that believes that there is more to feel in different wheels than frames so I was a bit sceptical going into my test ride. Frozen at my tips, riding low tire pressure (too lazy to pump) with mtb shoes on I hit the bricks. Wow, first thoughts, who ever started the rumors is right that Zurich is a missle. If you like it stiff like a scandium frame, but truely want a smooth ride this frame is it. Even with the muddy wheels on it I could stand on it and feel full gas right out of the box. I am not the biggest guy and I do not produce superwatts, but I can put the wood to it. I do not believe there was a single bit of flex in that bad boy. Flex never really bothered me in a frame because if you know anything about physics it is ludicris to believe you are actually loosing power due to flex. If a frame flexes on one axis the power delivered is transfered to the opposite pole of that axis. But, this thing just feels incredible solid (stiff) without the jaring ride that accompanies most rides that have this quality. I am impressed. I sounds like the uberlite Tete de Course will not happen for 07 however so if you want to shave off another 55 grams you will need to get out your files and ceramic saw blades.
Thanks Trek. Your super!
